Adeline Z. Born and raised in Old Town, Adeline Z. Gallegos passed away in the loving presence of her family on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at Albuquerque Regional Medical Center. Adeline was the daughter of Eubaldo Zamora and Lena Duran of Old Town of whom preceded her in death. She attended San Felipe School through the eight grade, and then later attended St. Mary's school. Not long after graduation, Adeline attended cosmetology school and received her license and worked for Flossie's Beauty Salon in Old Town. She then met and fell head over heels in love with John N. Gallegos of Socorro, NM and they married three weeks after they met. They would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in October. John and Adeline purchased their first home on Candelaria road in the NW valley in 1953. She opened her first beauty shop on 2nd street. Early in her career she attended University of California, Los Angeles where she took exotic hair design classes. In 1963, they moved to Socorro where Adeline and Johnny built and opened her second beauty shop called Adeline's Studio of Hair Design on the Frontage Road. She was an incredibly talented hair stylist and won many hair show contests for elaborate and unusual hair styles. Among many talents Adeline was notorious for her mouthwatering enchiladas and tamales. Using such talents, she and husband Johnny opened El Portal restaurant in Socorro. After 25 plus years of cosmetology, without hesitation she gave up the beauty shop and she, Johnny and her son, Jerry opened JG Wholesale (manufacturing silver and turquoise jewelry) where she ran the office and helped wherever she could. By today's standards she would be considered quite the entrepreneur. . . Adeline was a very active church member both in Socorro and Albuquerque. She also was a member of the Eucharistic Society, Legion of Mary and taught Religious Education classes. Known for loving and serving the Lord in her church, she was greatly recognized and remembered for thoughtfulness, outgoing personality, tremendous cooking skills, and her infamous "meals on wheels" and "love burrito." She took great pleasure in cooking and feeding her family and friends, especially when someone wasn't feeling well. Adeline is survived by her beloved husband, Johnny; oldest son, John Jr.; and her daughter, Annette; her grandchildren, Jerry Anthony Gallegos Jr., Anthony Phillip Gallegos, Celestria Gallegos, A. Dominic Longoria, and Noah Lena Gallegos; her great-grandchildren, Mariah Rae Gallegos, Dominic Anthony Gallegos, Jerry Manuel Gallegos, and Alexis Gallegos. She is also survived by her brothers, Tony and Robert Zamora; and her sisters, Mamie Garcia and Juanita Gurule. She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Anthony Gallegos; her sister, Emily Alexander; and her brothers, Eubaldo and Felix Zamora. Viewing and visitation will take place at Salazar and Sons Mortuary at 400 3rd street SW from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2005. Rosary will be held be held at Queen of Angels Chapel off 12th street and I-40 at 7:00 p.m. also on Friday. Funeral Mass Celebration to take place at the Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, July 9, 2005 followed by Burial Services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
