Obituary for KATHAN

Marshall Kathan passed away on June 19, 2005. He was born June 1, 1906 in Osage, IA, to Charles and Emma Kathan. He had been a resident of Albuquerque for 32 years since his retirement. Marshall was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College. He later attended the National Academy of Art in Chicago, the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, and studied in Paris for one year. He was a WWII veteran, having achieved the rank of Captain in the US Army. His career in art involved stage sets and costume drawing; and he spent many years working for the Government as an art illustrator for the US Weather Bureau, and the Dept. of Labor as a technical illustrator. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Maurice Kathan; and sister, Grace Shumate. He is survived by a niece, Colleen Gast and a nephew, Gregory Kathan of Iowa; and many grandnieces and grandnephews; also by his close friends, Ray and Millie Miller of Albuquerque. Graveside Services will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe on Wednesday, June 22, 2005, 2:00 p.m. Special thanks to the staff of Laurel Canyon Nursing Home and Amber Care Hospice.
