Obituary for PEARL

Robert Wood Pearl, age 81, of Orleans, MA died peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 5, 2005. He was the husband of Marie (Hansen) Pearl for 58 years. Mr. Pearl was born and raised in Manchester, CT. He graduated from South Manchester High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Army after his freshman year at Pennsylvania State University, serving with the 150th Combat Engineer Battalion. He graduated from Penn State with a degree in Agricultural Science in 1948. His specialty was forestry. He retired from the United States Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. after 30 years of service in 1978. When he and his wife a native of Orleans, MA, retired to the Cape, he became the tree warden for the Town of Orleans. He was a member of the Cape Cod Bible Alliance in Brewster, MA. He was also a member of the B.P.O.E., the American Legion Post 308, the VFW, the 150th Combat Engineer Battalion, the S.W. Forest Service Amigo's, the VBOB. Mr. Pearl enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening and playing bridge. Besides his wife, survivors include: his daughter, Joan Gray and her husband Anthony of Albuquerque, NM; his daughter, Julia Pearson and her husband Thomas of Antioch, CA; his son, Robert Wood Pearl, II and his wife Vicki of Clemmons, NC; his son, Thomas Pearl of Brewster, MA; his sister, Marion Taggart of Manchester, CT. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Dot Henry of Orleans, MA; six grandchildren; five nieces; and five nephews. Mr. Pearl was predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth Pearl. A Graveside Service was held on Saturday, June 11, 2005 in the Orleans Cemetery, Orleans, MA. A Memorial Service was held at the Cape Cod Bible Alliance, Main Street, Brewster, MA. Visiting hours were held on Friday, June 10, 2005 at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. Relatives and friends were invited to attend.
