Obituary for MCCLURE

Frank (Francis Wesley) Former State Senator Frank McClure was born March 25, 1922 to Walker G. McClure and Anna B. Cedarholm McClure and passed from this life Saturday, June 4, 2005. A life-long resident of New Mexico, Frank graduated from Gallup High School in 1942. During WWII Frank proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater and was a veteran of action at Bougainville as well as Iwo Jima. Frank began his long and distinguished public service with election to the School Board at Hatchita, NM in 1952. He was later elected from Valencia County to the new Mexico State House of Representatives serving 1965 - 1966 and the New Mexico State Senate 1967 - 72. After participating in the effort to create Cibola County from western Valencia County he was appointed by Governor King to the first Cibola County Commission in 1981. He was twice appointed to the State Environmental Improvement Board, serving from 1990-1995, during which time he was twice elected Chariman. Frank owned several businesses with is wife and business partner, Hope. He also served as a director of the First National Bank of Grants for several decades. Service organization membership included Malpais Lodge # 69 AF & AM, the Ballut Abyad Shrine, and the Grants Cibola County Chamber of Commerce. Left to remember and enjoy Frank's legacy are many friends and family members which include his wife of 59 years, Hope Bowlin McClure; children, Wayne McClure and Patricia McClure; son in law, Kraig Williams; grandchildren, Angella Hatton, Courtney McClure, Allison Hatton, and Kristin McClure; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Jordan, and Kyle; his sister, Olive McClure Delk; his sister in law, Mary Alice Showalter Bowlin; his brother in law, Michael Bowlin and wife Monica; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 11, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Milan, NM with the Reverend Dr. Martin Bayang officiating. Cremation has taken place; a private interment will be held at a later date. Anyone who wishes may make a contribution to All Saints Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 157, Grants, NM 87020 or to the charity of her or his choice in Frank's name. Had Frank been able he would have expressed special gratitude to Tony Esparza, Tena Archunde, Doctors Shipley and Gibson, and the many wonderful caregivers at Grants Good Samaritan Nursing Home including Pam, Mary, George, Wanda, Tina, and Jan. Grants Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
