Obituary for GUTIERREZ

Gilbert E. Gutierrez, Sr., 84, a lifetime resident of Cuba, NM died Tuesday, June 7, 2005. He is survived by his two sons, Waldo Gutierrez of Rio Rancho and Gary Gutierrez and wife, Elaine of Albuquerque; three daughters, JoAnn Baca and husband, Ray, of Bernalillo, Sally Maestas of Albuquerque and Kelly Garcia of Rio Rancho; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Angelita Olivas of La Jara, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Epifanio and Agapita Gutierrez; his wife, Rose, of 58 years in August, 2004; two sons, James Gutierrez and Gilbert Gutierrez, Jr.; and two brothers, Rudy and Anselmo Gutierrez. He was born on December 9, 1920 in La Jara, NM. Gilbert graduated from high school in Cuba, NM. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Expert Soldier Badge, and numerous other distinguished decorations and citations. Gilbert was a very active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his family; his sense of humor was passed on to his children. Gilbert was a beloved father, grandfather, and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Rosary will be recited at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba, NM on Thursday, June 9, 2005, 7:30 p.m. with Tom Pacheco reciting. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba, on Friday, June 10, 2005, 11:00 a.m. with Father John Boland, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with military honors. Friends may visit one hour prior to the Rosary at the church. Pallbearers will be Jared Gutierrez, Vince Bernal, Ryan Gutierrez, Joey Gallegos, Adriel Garcia, and David Leyba.
