Obituary for GARCIA

Onofre "Onie" M. Garcia, age 91, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2005 at Princeton Place Nursing Home in Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Garcia in 1966. Onofre was born in Nambe to Celestina Ortiz and Nabor Maestas. Onofre graduated from Santa Cruz High and went on to St. Vincent's Nursing School in Santa Fe. As a Registered Nurse, she worked many years for Dr. E. H. Dellinger and was director of nursing at the New Mexico State Hospital in Las Vegas. After moving to Albuquerque in 1961 she worked for Dr. Sands at Lovelace Clinic and UNM Hospital. She worked as an R.N. for 51 years. She is survived by her daughters, Jean and husband Deacon Jim Delgado of Albuquerque, Dana and husband Ron Ebenkamp of Denver, CO; and one son, John and wife Diana of Velarde. She is also survived by three sisters, Frances Montoya and Stella Quintana of Nambe, and Basilia Hofflinger of Lansing, KS. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dolores Benavidez Herrera. She also loved her eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her in-laws, Mrs. Joe (Rosina) Garcia of Velarde, Placido and Adelina Garcia of Socorro, Eloisa Garcia Trujillo of Santa Fe, and David and Betty Hale of Santa Fe, Mrs. Mary Ann Ebenkamp of Pampa, TX; and many other friends and relatives. Onie was also very fond of Aggie Chavez, her caregiver for several years. A Rosary in her honor will be recited at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 833 Arizona, SE, Friday, June 10, 2005, 7:00 p.m. Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 11, 2005, 9:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Cremated remains will be laid to rest at the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Nambe at a later date. The family expresses thanks to those who cared for her at Princeton Place.
