Obituary for DUNCAN

Elizabeth "Breck" Benbow Duncan, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died May 6, 2005, preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Eaton H. Draper, her husband of seven years, J.C. MacGregor III, and her husband of 16 years, Robert M. Duncan. She is survived by her sons, John Benbow Draper and spouse, Lucy Crane Draper of Santa Fe and Charles Leonard Draper of Tepotzlan, Mexico; and her daughter, Frances Elizabeth Draper and her partner, Michael Minard of Boulder, CO; also by her step-children, John C. MacGregor IV of South Pasadena, CA, Robert MacGregor, Robert B. Duncan and spouse, Barbara Duncan of Sherman Oaks, CA, Nancy Duncan Swigger of Seattle, WA and John Wm. Duncan III and spouse, Frances Duncan of Albuquerque. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Eaton Draper of New York City, NY, Melissa Crane Draper of Washington, D.C., Hermes Tlahuili Draper, Shalomit Xilonen Draper, and their mother, Martha Draper of Longwood, FL, Karl Fredrick Kumli IV, Anneka Eaton Kumli, and their father, Karl F. Kumli III of Boulder, CO; also by her step-grandchildren, Jocelyn Swigger of Gettysburg, PA, Bettina Swigger of Colorado Springs, CO, and their father, Ronald Swigger of Albuquerque, Juan Ramon Duncan and spouse, Claudie DuBois of Paris, France, Rebecca Duncan of Torre Vieja, Spain, and Ted Henderson of Los Angeles, CA, Darla Henderson of Central City, CO, and Don Henderson of Las Cruces, NM; also by her step-great-grandchild, Tom Duncan, of Paris, France. She is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Bessey and her brother, John Benbow, Jr. Breck was a graduate of Connecticut College and a founding member there of the women's sailing team. She loved to sail the waters of Cape Cod as she had done ever since she was a girl and most recently less than a year ago. She was a long-time member of St. John's Cathedral, served as the second woman on the Cathedral's vestry, and was a faithful member of St. Martha's Thriftshop Guild. Breck was a member of the Tuesday Literary Club and a former member of the Albuquerque Junior League. Dinner with friends, New Mexico Symphony concerts, opening nights at the Opera, openings at the Museum of Albuquerque, and a good crossword puzzle - these were some of her favorite things. Originally from Newton, MA, she will be buried with her first husband and other members of her family in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA. A Memorial Service will take place at St. John's Cathedral, 318 Silver, SW, Albuquerque, on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. She requested that any donations in her name be made to the St. John's Cathedral Memorial Fund or to a charity of one's choice.
