Obituary for WEIDMAN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday May 11, 2005

Robert William Weidman, 91, died peacefully on Saturday, May 7, 2005 with his beloved wife of 30 years, Ellie, at his side. Bob was born January 8, 1914 in Kansas City and moved that same year to Chicago with his family. He grew up and remained in Chicago until he was 65 when he retired after a successful business career, culminating as Comptroller of Jay's Foods, a large and popular Chicago-based firm. Bob and Ellie had a good marriage that began many years after they had each raised their children and their first spouses had died. They knew each other as children in Chicago and met again nearly 40 years later when Ellie visited friends in Chicago. They went out for dinner and dancing, which they both loved, married a few months later, and after Bob retired they moved to Albuquerque where Ellie had resided since 1955. Together they danced, played bridge, played golf and enjoyed each other's company for 30 happy years. Bob was skilled on both the golf course and the pool table. He spent many satisfying hours playing golf at Arroyo del Oso and winning many pool tournaments at Palo Duro Senior Center. Bob's parents were Edwin Weidman and Laura Roberts Weidman of Chicago. A brother Charles, a sister Rose and a granddaughter Laurie Hamilton predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Elinor Sedgwick Johnson Weidman of Albuquerque; son Dr. Douglas Weidman, wife Judy, Chicago; daughter Arlene Hamilton, husband Bill, Michigan; stepsons Douglas Johnson, wife Ruth; Eric Johnson, wife Deborah, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren Matthew, Bradley, Gregory, Debra, Sherri, Dawn, Lauren, and Leslie. The family wishes to thank Vista del Rio Retirement Center and Staff, Presbyterian Hospital Senior Health Plan, Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice and Staff, Drs. Phillip Jameson, David Peters, Lydia Larson for their care of Bob in his elder years. Funeral arrangements by French Mortuary. Cremation has taken place. A family Graveside Service will be held at Fairview Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2005. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE (505) 843-6333
