Obituary for GIOMI

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday May 04, 2005

Ioli Gradi Giomi passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2005. Born in Lucca, Italy, March 3, 1920, Ioli studied piano and became an accomplished musician before moving to Albuquerque, NM in 1948. Here she met and married Marcello Giomi. She loved her Italian heritage so much that she co-founded the "Club Culturale Italiano" and became the editor of "Il Giornalino Di Gian Burasca." This resulted in her being knighted by the Italian government for her efforts in promoting the Italian culture. A skilled accompanist and teacher, she left her mark on the musical community. Her talents and creativity extended to writing, sewing and needlecrafts. Her love of chocolate and peanut butter were only surpassed by her love for her two grandsons, Alex Hughes and Evan Giomi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcello; her sisters, Thelma, Chepy, Bombi, Siri, Elsie, and Sela; and her brothers, Lamberto, Salvatore (Ciaccio), Rico, and Arthur. She is survived by her children, Andrew Giomi and wife, Joan Blackburn, and their son, Evan; Rita Giomi of Seattle, WA; Sylvia Giomi and husband, Scott Hughes and their son, Alex; Julie and Joel Crespy; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. A Mass will be held on Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas NE. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family thanks all the loving, caring staff of the Woodmark and Companion Care, who took such good care of our mother over the last several years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to the charity of your choice. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
