Obituary for BROWNE

Claude A. Browne, age 88, and a retired Air Force chief warrant officer, died April 9, 2005 at the assisted living center, Vista Del Rio. A decorated WWII infantry staff sergeant, Browne served with the 165th Infantry Regiment in the South Pacific. Wounded in action during the battle of Okinawa, S/Sgt. Browne lay on a litter behind an embankment for hours in the hot sun. Shot in the stomach he was in great pain; never-the-less when his unit was counter-attacked, he left the litter, obtained a rifle, and directed others into the line to defend the position. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions. He was married to Patricia O'Grady Browne who preceded him in death. Funeral Services were private.
