Obituary for SANCHEZ

Mr. Juven G. Sanchez, 76, known to his family as (Big Boy) and a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on April 12, 2005. Mr. Sanchez is the beloved husband of 47 years to Mrs. Susie Sanchez. Mr. Sanchez is also survived by his five daughters, Antoinette Sanchez-Romero and husband, Thomas, Angela Sanchez Varela and husband, Ismael, Anita Candelaria and husband, Rudy, Margie Perez and husband, Anthony, Rosalia Mirabal and husband, Jude; three sons, Manuel Sanchez and wife, Davine, Timothy J. Sanchez and wife, Linda and Leroy Sanchez; two brothers, Ernest G. Sanchez Jr., Alfonso G. Sanchez and wife, Cecilia of Santa Fe, NM; seven sisters, Fannie Sanchez and husband, Tom, Priscilla DeBlassie and husband, Paul Jr., Maclovia Zamora and husband, Eloy, Victoria Lucero, Celina Sanchez DeLilla, Frances Flores Taylor, of Palm Springs, CA and Annie Sanchez; one uncle, Willie Sanchez of Santa Fe, NM; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Sanchez was preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Anita Sanchez; his step-mother, Juanita Sanchez; his father in law and mother in law, Manuel Sanchez (Big Daddy) and Oralia Sanchez (Big Mama). Mr. Sanchez was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was an AHS graduate, Class of 1949. Upon his graduation from AHS, Juven was working as a baker when he was called to active duty in the U.S. Army to serve in the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany and assigned to duty in the psychological warfare unit, serving for two years. Upon his return to New Mexico, Juven attended the Albuquerque Business College, where his concentration was in the field of accounting. For several years he operated and owned a restaurant which he named 3-A's, (in honor of his three lovely young daughters). Juven has always been gifted with a creative mind, focused toward the field of public service. He was of an outwardly jovial disposition, but seriously focused in his endeavors. For example, as State Fair Commissioner under Governor Bruce King, Juven was responsible for the creation of the Spanish Village, among other things. He was also elected Bernalillo County Commissioner in the 1980s and was the main organizer for building the Westside Community Center, Atrisco Park, Tom Tenorio Softball Complex, and the Sewer and Water Project for the southwest section of Albuquerque, again among other things. As a devoted father and family, Juven is greatly loved by his wife, Susie Sanchez and all his family. He would never retire from his car wash business, as long as he lived, he as always striving and working as a public servant. A Rosary was recited Thursday evening at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday morning by Father Albert Gallegos, O.S.M. Interment followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Army. Pallbearers were Timothy J. Sanchez, Manuel Sanchez, Alfonso G. Sanchez, Anthony Perez, Tom Romero and Jude Mirabal. Honorary pallbearers include Rudy Candelaria, Ismael Varela, Thomas Perez, Eric Perez, Ernest Sanchez, Ozzie Davis, Andy Segura, Frank Atencio, Albert Baca, Vivian Chavez.
