Obituary for DAUT

Francis X. "Frank" Daut, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005. He is survived by his wife 56 years, Joan Grace; daughters, Nancy Lee Kerr, Suzanne Marie White, and Kathleen Grace Crawford and husband, Mike; two loving grandsons, Jon-Michael Kerr and Travis David Kerr, all of Albuquerque; one brother-in-law, Charles Merton Stentiford and wife, Ina of Brookville, Long Island, NY; two cousins, Carol McGough and husband, Tom of Greensboro, NC and Evelyn Brooks and husband, Ted of Jensen Beach, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was born in the Bronx, NY on October 19, 1925 to Frank J. Daut and Marie A. DeSantis, he attended Our Lady of Loretto Elementary School in Hempstead, Long Island and graduated from Hempstead High School in June 1943. He enlisted in the navy in May 1943, was selected for the V12 training program and attended Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva, NY for 16 months. He was transferred to Great Lakes, IL, then to Key West, FL, where he graduated from sonar school. He was a sonarman on board the USS Trumpeter, DE 180 and served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres during WWII. After discharge in 1946, he attended Adelphi College in Garden City, Long Island. He married Joan Stentiford on September 6, 1948. He attended the University of New Mexico and then joined Sandia Labs in July 1950. He was an electrical connector designer, had a patent, and retired on September 30, 1985. He was an original member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, serving as an usher in the school before the church was built. He participated in all of the fund raising campaigns to build and furnish the church and school. He enjoyed automobiles and airplanes, spending many hours working on his cars and building gas model planes. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was an avid Lobos and Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved being with Jon and Trav, he especially enjoyed traveling by car with Joan. They have visited 49 states plus Canada and Mexico. They have journeyed on most highways and back roads in New Mexico. Frank's family and friends were the most important part of his life and he loved being with them. Rosary will be recited Monday, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas NE, with Deacon Frank See reciting. Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m., Monday with Father Francis X. Eggert, Celebrant. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
