Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday March 26, 2005

HERVE. Mr. Herve H. Chouinard passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005 in Newport, Vermont after a lengthy illness. Perhaps now he can have another morning catching trout at Cabresto Lake. Herve was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 1963; and his son, Richard in 1999. Also, predeceasing him are his parents, Ernest Emilian and Diana Marie (Masse) Chouinard; and his siblings, Lucille Wisnewski, Gertrude Viens, and Roger Chouinard. He is survived by his wife, Gwen of Orleans, Vermont; his children, Mark Chouinard and his wife Ginger, Victoria Chouinard, Jacqueline Murphy, Dave Chouinard, Patrice Wendlick, Lisa Chouinard; and also his daughter-in-law, Chris Chouinard all from New Mexico. In addition, Herve leaves fifteen grandchildren; and one great grand daughter. Other survivors include his sisters, Edith Minch, Gabrielle Miles, and Ernestine Booth. Herve was born April 28, 1922 in St. Cesare, in the providence of Quebec. He had dual citizenship with Canada and the United States. Herve attended the University of Vermont, studying agriculture. He was a WW II veteran of the Army Aircorp. In 1948, after serving in North Africa and Italy, he was stationed in El Paso, Texas where he met his bride Betty Vaughn. After his military service, they moved to Vermont where Herve had a chicken and dairy farm. In 1956, he moved his family to New Mexico to be near Betty's family, where he began a career in Los Alamos with the ProForce of the Atomic Energy Commission. After remarrying Connie Meyer, in 1968, Herve transferred his expanded family to Albuquerque where he continued to work for the Department of Energy until his retirement in 1987. After his retirement Herve returned to Vermont to live his remaining years with his wife Gwen. Herve was an avid fisherman, enthusiastic about the outdoors. He was an accomplished history buff, never tiring of imparting his knowledge to others. When one thinks of Herve, they will remember a kind, patient, gentle tempered man who was always thoughtful and loving. His sense of humor, quick wit, sparkling smile (with his aromatic pipe positioned just so), and especially his many French idioms will always be treasured. Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, 2005, 12:00 p.m. at the Curtis-Britch Funeral Home in Newport, Vermont. Herve's family would like to thank the Bel-Aire Quality Care Center in Newport for their outstanding, competent care and unending compassion. Should friends desire, contributions in Herve's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 9500 Montgomery NE, Ste. 209, Albuquerque, NM 87111
