Obituary for HATCH

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 20, 2005

Don Hatch, our father, grandpa, and best friend, was surrounded by his five children when Jesus took him home on March 14, 2005. He was born in Albuquerque, NM to Roy and Leona Hatch October 28, 1932 and raised in Coyote, NM where he enjoyed a country lifestyle, working in sawmills and in the forest service. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon returning home to Coyote he married Dorothy Cohn, moved to Albuquerque and began his career with Southwest Distributing Co. He then moved to Las Cruces and was instrumental in pioneering the start of the biggest family owned and operated distributing company in the state. After 35 years with Southwest Distributing, he retired and moved on to purchase his first Dairy Queen restaurant along with his son, Harry, which expanded into five other locations throughout the southern part of New Mexico. He was also very active and involved in the community. He was a huge supporter of the Aggie Scholarship Fund, the Bulldog Booster Club, Chamber of Commerce, and many of the local area churches. He was an avid outdoors man; he loved fishing, hunting, and anything to do with the outdoors. Don Hatch was a friend to many in this community. His success as a business man speaks for itself by all the lives he touched and the people he helped. He always remained a giver and not a taker. He was the ultimate entrepreneur. But most of all he would want to be remembered as a man of faith who loved Jesus with all his heart. That was his true passion. Don is survived by his five children: Donna Siedow and husband, Jon of Galveston, TX, Harry Hatch and wife, Maria of Las Cruces, Dana Williams and husband, Mark of Ruidoso, Becky Hatch of Las Cruces, John Hatch of Las Cruces. Other survivors include five grandchildren: Lauren and Derek Hatch, Marcus and Samuel Williams, and Justin Hatch; and his two sisters, Charlotte Williams of T or C, Norma Petroni of Virginia. Memorial Service will be held at Temple Baptist Church, 2300 E. Missouri Ave on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be held at Fairview Memorial Park, Albuquerque, NM, on the corner of Yale and Caesar Chavez, Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 1132, Fairfax, VA 22038-1132
