Obituary for NAKAOKA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday March 03, 2005

Jan. Cancer took Jan Nakaoka on March 1, 2005. She is survived by her three children, Ron, Tami, and Lori Nakaoka; her husband of fifty years, Robert Nakaoka; her five grandchildren; and by countless friends. This slender, graceful woman was an extraordinary mother, wife, and friend. Though quiet in her expression of it, her love for all of us was fierce and unwavering. No mother could have done better at creating a loving, safe and nurturing environment for her family. We thank her for memories of childhood summers filled with laughter, "Kick the Can," snow cones, lizards, snakes, guinea pigs, and all the other pets, running through the sprinklers and "Pleasure Time" soda pop; for wintertime memories of snowmen, skiing and roasted pinons. It has been difficult to accept that she would be leaving us. The knowledge that she was always there to turn to kept us whole, safe, and feeling forever loved. They say that life goes on, which is true, but it will never, ever, be the same. We are left with a great sadness and emptiness, but know that in death there is peace. Grateful beyond words for her gift of unconditional love, we will honor her memory by trying to give this same gift to our own families and friends. We love you Mom. A private family service will be held. Memorial contributions should be made to Hospice of the Wood River Valley, P.O. Box 4320, Ketchum ID 83340. Arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey, Idaho.
