Obituary for CALLAHAN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday February 27, 2005

George Rogers Callahan, 55, a longtime resident of New Mexico, went to his rest early Sunday morning, February 20, 2005 after a short illness. George was born on October 24, 1949 to James M. and Virginia Callahan in Hawaii. He was a proud retiree of the U.S. Forest Service, where he ran a hot shot crew, and a decorated war combat veteran of Vietnam, where he proudly served our country as U.S. Marine. His enthusiastic, outstanding love and enjoyment of the outdoors was legendary to all who knew him. He was loving husband of 27 years to Marcia Callahan of the home; adoring father and grandfather of Candace Rowton, her husband, Elijah, their children, Hope, Ethan, and Abby of Albuquerque; also father to son Jeremiah Callahan, his daughter, Jazmarie, and son, Ashlay Callahan. George is also survived by his sister, Barbara Norris, her friend, Kerry Gammon, her sons, Louis and Mark Gonzales, all of Denver; as well as a cherished and supportive extended family and friends. He was a lifelong warrior. A memorial and interment in Santa Fe will be held at a later date.
