Obituary for FISHER

Harry (Hal) Vining Fisher, Jr., 74, formerly of Albuquerque, died February 8, 2005 at his home in Mesa, AZ. Mr. Fisher was born in Alpine, TX on February 8, 1931. Following graduation from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a B-29 engine mechanic. After military service, Mr. Fisher returned to Texas and attended Texas A&M University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation he joined the staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque where he served his nation in a distinguished career for more than 35 years. For his many contributions at Sandia he received the Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff Award. Hal was a boating and motor home enthusiast, spending many wonderful days on Elephant Butte Lake with family and members of the Albuquerque Boat Club, of which he was a longtime member and former. At his home within the Monte Vista Resort in Mesa, he was an active tennis player, ballroom dancer, and pool "shark." At the time of his death, he was an active member of the Church of the Transfiguration in Mesa, AZ, where his electrical skills and dedication to "hands-on" help earned him the nickname of "Hal-the-Helper!" Mr. Fisher was preceded in death by his wife, June, of Tillamook, OR. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Mary Fisher of Irvine, CA; his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and David Dozier of Albuquerque, daughter, Doreen Fisher of Placitas, NM; and four grandchildren, Claire and Derek, of Irvine, CA, and Kyle and Nicole, of Albuquerque. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at St. John's United Methodist Church at 2626 Arizona NE, Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Fisher's body has been cremated and will be interred next to his wife, at their church in Mesa.
