Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday February 10, 2005

Jesusita R. 1908-2005 Jesusita R. Garcia, 96, entered the fullness of life on February 6, 2005. Born on December 30, 1908 to Lorenzo and Cleofas Romero, she was raised in La Plaza Vieja (Old Town Albuquerque) until she was married to Luis L. Garcia on May 17, 1926. She resided most of her life in the South Valley, and participated as a very active member of the Holy Family Church community until 1976. Afterwards, she moved to Los Chavez to live near her daughter. Jesusita's faith was central in her life; her hobbies included embroidery, and her flowers. She took great pride and joy in her children and many grandchildren. "Sita" was a Roaring Twenty's gal, who encouraged and supported independence and education for women; she herself had to leave school in the 6th grade to work cleaning houses with her widowed mother. She enjoyed parties, cooking, even washing dishes. Jesusita had the ability to make each person she was with feel like they were "the most special person around." She will be missed by her family and friends. Jesusita is survived by her children: Edward and Donna of Stockton, CA, David and Sally of La Mirada, CA, Cecilia of Paso Robles, CA, Fred and Nina of Los Chavez, Lorenzo and Sylvia of Albuquerque, and Leonor and Mike Baca of Los Chavez. Jesusita had 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation for Jesusita will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, located on the corner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Road and Old Hwy 85 across from Dennis Chavez Elementary, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning, February 11, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. also in Los Chavez with Father Stephen Shultz officiating. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Michael, Robert, and Jose Garcia, Ray and James Baca, and Vincent Carrejo. In an effort to alleviate hunger in the area, and in support of social justice, donations may be made to: Personal Development Fund, C/O 6824 Louella Ann NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. Arrangements by Riverside Funeral Home in Belen, 864-4448.
