Obituary for PLATH

Victor J. Plath passed away in his sleep on Sunday, January 30, 2005, after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on Sunday, January 1, 1922 in Davenport, IA, the only child of Emma E. Theidermann-Plath, homemaker, and Victor Plath, and independent grocer. He is survived by his wife of five and a half years, Marianne Newman Plath; his five children and their families: "Budgie" Plath and wife, Debbie, of Granby, MA, Vincent Plath and wife, Judy, of Fairborn, OH, Phillip Plath of Albuquerque, Barbara Plath of Santa Rosa, CA, and Laura Anne Plath of Lakeport, CA; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Victor was an avid aviator with a lifelong hobby of making and flying remote control airplanes. He earned his first pilot's license at the age of 19. Victor married Irene Mozelle Gatlin in 1943. He served in the USAF for 23 years, during which time he served as a flight instructor, ferried planes, and flew cargo in various parts of the world. He spent his last 6 years of service at Manzano Base in NM. After retiring from the Air Force, he and his family spent 2 years in Dallas, TX and 1 year in Santa Fe, NM and then resettled in Albuquerque. He was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church, was a gifted woodworker, and worked for Hancock Mutual Funds, Terra Corp. among others. As a widower in 1998, Vic married Marianne Newman, who has lovingly and devotedly cared for him during his illness which was diagnosed in 2000. His bright smile and twinkling eyes will always be remember. Services will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain NE in Albuquerque, In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 W. 168th Street, New York, NY 10032.
