Obituary for CARBAJAL

Richard (Rich) Carbajal, Jr., age 44, went to be with Our Lord on Sunday, January 23, 2005 after a long battle with Leukodystrophy. Rich lived in Belen all his life and played football for the Belen Eagles. He graduated from UNM and taught history and government in Los Lunas High School for ten years, until his disability caused him to leave teaching. Rich was known and loved for his prolific talent in music, both keyboard and composition. He was unique, loving, witty, and courageous. Even though Rich has lived in Albuquerque for the past year, he has owned a home in Belen for many years. Rich is preceded in death by a brother, Donnie, in 1993. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carbajal, Sr. of Albuquerque; his sister, Francine; a brother, David; an aunt and uncle in Texas, an aunt in California; and aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Bosque/Belen area. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the love and support of family and friends. All are encouraged to learn about and donate to the ongoing research of Leukodystrophy at www.ulf.org. Services will take place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Thursday, January 27, 2005 beginning with a visitation from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Gerald Johnson officiating. With the utmost respect for Rich's wishes cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date. Urn bearers will be Ray Carbajal, Jr. and Chris Chavez. Everyone is also encouraged to attend a Memorial Celebration for Rich in Early March. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St. Belen.
