James Edwin Bassett, born February 25, 1953 passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2005. He grew up in Edgewood and graduated from Moriarty High School. He became a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Operating Engineers. He later worked as an Engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad. He was an avid reader and gardener, and loved to cook. He is survived by his daughter, Megan Kulju and husband, Justin; grandchildren, Justin and Makenna Kulju; and Lisa Gallegos, his very best friend; parents, Carl and Josephine Bassett of Edgewood; sister, Frances Bassett; brothers, Eugene, John, Kenneth, William and wife, Julie of Edgewood; nieces, Natasha Romero, Amanda, Kelly, and Olivia Bassett; nephew, William Bassett; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and too many friends to count. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Sunday, January 9, 2005, 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 6:00 p.m., recited by Clara Gallegos Pardon. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 10, 2005, 10:00 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Edgewood with Rev. William Young, celebrating. Burial will follow at Mountain Valley Cemetery in Barton, NM.
