Obituary for WILLIAMS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday January 05, 2005

Charlotte. Born in Los Lunas in 1915, Charlotte (Owen) Williams was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. Her mother, Katherine MacGillvary, was a nurse who emigrated from Canada in 1896 to treat TB patients in New Mexico. Her father, Harry Pitt Owen, moved from Pennsylvania to New Mexico in 1889 - after passing the NM Bar exam, he practiced law in Los Lunas before he was elected District Judge in 1921. Charlotte taught school in Madrid during the early mining days, traveling on then-primitive roads to reach her work. She worked at Albuquerque High School for many years, attended the University of New Mexico, taught in the Old Town School, then finally at Mitchell Elementary. Traveling the world with her many good friends was one of her greatest joys, and one she continued until late in life. Her last trip was to Canada, and that reunited her with relatives she hadn't seen since she was a child. Charlotte was an avid bridge player and Bronco fan; she loved a good party and generously gave many of her own. Charlotte is preceded in death by her beloved son, Edmund Krampitz; her former husband, Alan Williams; her two brothers, Harry and George; and three sisters, Marguerite, Katherine, and Edith. She is survived by her nephew, James Forgotson and wife, Beverly, of Norman, OK; David Porter and wife, Kim, of Albuquerque; and by her niece, Kathy McCoy and husband, David J. Holcomb of Sandia Park. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Montebello Senior Living for their wonderful long-term care, and also to Hospice of New Mexico for their extraordinary attention to Charlotte's final weeks. Services will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on a near future date. Please contact French Mortuary, (505) 823-9400, for details. Charlotte's parents, Judge Harry and Katherine Owen, donated the land on which our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church is now located. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, Inc., 615 Virginia SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE 823-9400
