Obituary for MCCANNA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday January 04, 2005

Vivian McCanna died peacefully January 1, 2005 at the family home, surrounded by love and music. She had a full and fabulous life, and will be remembered for her elegance, graciousness and the love of her family and friends. "Angel", "Mommie Vivian", and "Grandmom", as she was known over the years, was born in Independence, Kansas in 1914. She graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing as an RN, and became a stewardess for TWA. In 1941 she married Raymond James McCanna and Albuquerque became her home. An extensive traveler, Vivian remained committed to TWA long after her stewardess days. She was the Organizing President of TWA Clipped Wings International, and also the International President from 1971-1973. She visited all the TWA Clipped Wings Chapters in the United States, and also chapters in Paris, London, Rome, and Hong Kong. Upon her arrival in Albuquerque, Vivian was active in community work and her dedication continued throughout her life. She was a member of the Junior League of Albuquerque, President and member of the Board of Directors of the Y.W.C.A., a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Opera Guild. She was also a Life Master at bridge and past President of Casa de Amigas Duplicate Bridge Club. Her positive outlook on life will continue to have a profound effect on all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her two sisters and brother-in-law; her son Jim and his wife, Inez and their children; her daughter, Mary and her husband Rod, and their daughters, Karen and Leslie. She will also be fondly remembered by many other wonderful grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. As Vivian's life was enriched by both music and her love for helping others, donations can be made, in lieu of flowers, to the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra or to a charity of choice. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Rd. NE. Internment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of: STRONG-THORNE MORTUARY 1100 Coal Ave. SE 842-8800
