Betty, L. Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Bettie L. Lake, age 80, of Roswell, who passed away December 30, 2004 at her residence. Rev. Archie Echols of First United Methodist Church will officiate with burial to follow at South Park Cemetery. Bettie was born June 13, 1924 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to LeRoy and Gladys Whitehead. They have preceded her in death. On January 21, 1942, Bettie and Albert Lake were married in Oklahoma City. He survives her at the family home. She is also survived by four cousins. Bettie and Al moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1950, then to Roswell in 1955. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was very active in the community and served as President of Beta Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Newcomers Club, Pecos Garden Club, Chaves County Council of Garden Clubs, and Valley View Extension Club. Past Officer and Chairman of Roswell Women's Club Fine Arts Department. She was also a member of St. Mark's Auxiliary, Assistance League of Chaves County, Charter Member of International Society of Artists and Sculptors in Bronze. Bettie enjoyed her artwork painting and bronze sculpturing. She loved her many friends and relatives, traveling and all of what life had to offer. Memorials may be made to the Assistance League of Chaves County, P. O. Box 1324, Roswell, NM 88202, the Human Society Kennels, 703 E. McGaffey, Roswell, NM 88203 or a charitable organization of your choice. Pallbearers will be: Michael Lake, Albert Lee Lake, Lee Hales, Jeff Lake, Jim Hartman and Charles Plett. Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
