Obituary for KING

Robert Lee (Bob) King, 81, a long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Sharel A. King; daughter, Christine King of Los Lunas; son, Gary King and wife, Marie of American Falls, ID; son, Larry King of Edgewood; daughter, Dianne Ohrberg of Albuquerque; son, Bradley King of Albuquerque; son, Randy King of Oceanside, CA; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grand-children and one brother, Quentin King and wife, Virginia of Marshall, MO. He was preceded in death by his first wife Darlene King. Bob came to Albuquerque for the first time in 1962 as Head LOBO Basketball Coach until 1972 and is known as the father of Lobo Basketball. He was Athletic Director at Indiana State for eight years as well as the Head Basketball Coach for three years, before returning to Albuquerque in 1982. Since 1992 the LOBO basketball teams have played on what the University of New Mexico Athletic Department dedicated and named the "The Bob King Court". Services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at the "Pit", University Arena's Bob King Court, University Blvd. and Avenida Ceasar Chavez SE, Bishop Scot Thurgood, officiating. Friends may visit Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., for viewing at the Pit.
