Ellen May Drake passed away in Albuquerque at the age of 100 on Monday, December 6, 2004. Mrs. Drake was born on September 10, 1904 in Las Vegas, NM to parents, Charles and Bessie Rogers. Her father was the "Village Blacksmith" whose business was on Bridge Street. As a child, she and her family lived by the plaza. After the death of her father, her mother supported the family as a school teacher, midwife, and as a Deputy Sheriff of West Las Vegas. Mrs. Drake was a wife, mother and homemaker. She also worked in the city clerk's office in Las Vegas. Mrs. Drake was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Drake (former Chief of Police of Las Vegas); brothers, Arthur, Robert and Alfred Rogers; children, Betty Gillespie and Carl Gillespie, Jr.; and niece, Colleen Davis of Albuquerque. Mrs. Drake is survived by her sister, Martha Yearout (89), niece, Sandra Browning and husband, Bob, of Fowler, CA. Private services and interment were held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Albuquerque.
