On December 5, 2004, "Jack" Letter passed away unexpectedly but peacefully, with his family by his side. He was 61. Jack was born on February 27, 1994 in St. Louis, Missouri to John and Dolores Letter. He was the eldest of three brothers and one sister. He married Anita Aguado in Columbia, Missouri, on January 18, 1962 and together they raised five wonderful and loving children while living in Missouri, Alberta, Utah and New Mexico. Jack always believed in the importance of education, earning among others a high school diploma from St. Mary's High School (where he was Student Body President), a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Chemistry at the University of Alberta, and a Medical Degree from the University of Calgary. Jack truly enjoyed practicing medicine, with his valued co-workers and treasured patients, and did so superbly in his residency program at the Royal Alexandria Hospital in Edmonton, at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City and Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, where he filled many positions: Emergency Room Physician, Family Practice Physician, Educator, Board of Directors, and so many others. He also was a member of the Board of the Lovelace Foundation, Medical Director of Superior Ambulance, and member of numerous professional organizations such as the American Chemical Society and the American College of Emergency Physicians. Jack Letter had a warm smile and a charming sense of humor that was appreciated by everyone who knew him. He loved the outdoors and all that nature had to offer. He enjoyed fishing, biking, skiing, hunting and above all else his duck hunting. He was a Committee Member and Sponsor of the Albuquerque Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and spent many hours guaranteeing the preservation of wildlife. Jack believed in the goodness of people and life, celebrating and encouraging that goodness with everyone he came in contact with. His generous and loving presence will be missed by all. No one can truly know the depth of Jack's love for his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Anita, and their loving children, John James, Andrea, Melissa and Matthew; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Candace, Madison, Aidan and Andre', his beloved family, father, John Edward, Sr. and wife Nancee; his brother Michael (Claudia), and sister Lorie Schaefer (Dale) and sister-in-law Beverly and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Adrienne Collins, Trini Hudson, Tom Aguado, Steve Aguado, Terry Aguado and Art Aguado. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Dolores O'Neal and brother, Mark. An Open House will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2004 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. with a Memorial to follow from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at French Mortuary at Lomas and Eubank. The family requests that gifts be made in the form of flowers or donations to the Albuquerque Chapter of Ducks Unlimited or the Lovelace Foundation, to be used for Lovelace employee scholarships and research.
