Obituary for COHEN

Arthur. The family of Arthur Cohen is sad to announce his passing on Wednesday, November 10, 2004. Arthur was born July 23, 1931 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He and his family came to the United States in 1959. Arthur graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Science degree (Honors Chemistry), from McGill University with a Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering and from Syracuse University with a Master of Science in Metallurgy. He worked for a number of companies, finally joining the Copper Development Association in New York City in 1967 with whom he remained as Manager of Standards and Safety Engineering until his retirement in 1997. He became Chairman of the board of Directors of the American Society for Testing and Materials in 1996 and also served as Vice President-Standardization of the American Society for Mechanical Engineers for 1995-1998. Arthur was the recipient of numerous technical society medals and awards. He lectured at many conferences. He published many articles in technical journals on a wide variety of subjects including chapters of numerous technical handbooks. He was an active member of Congregation B'nai Israel in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was a docent for the National Atomic Museum. Three daughters survive him, Mara Perry of White Plains, New York, Dana Sprott of Parkland, Florida / Sint Maarten, Netherland Antilles and Marcia Wiener of Scotch Plains, New Jersey and two sisters, Mildred Glynn of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Roslyn Boes of Ottawa, Ontario. Five grandchildren also survive him. Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Congregation B'nai Israel Cemetery, 700 Yale Blvd. SE. Rabbi Arthur Flicker and Cantor Caitlin Bromberg will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of: STRONG-THORNE MORTUARY 1100 Coal Ave. SE 842-8800
