Obituary for GRIS

Henry "Hank" Gris, 95, a resident of Albuquerque for 34 years, died on Friday, November 5, 2004. He is survived by his godson, H.L. Wheaton and wife Loretta; grandchildren, Serena, Adam, Ginel, and Katrina Wheaton all of Albuquerque; nieces, Jackie Gris of PA, and Kitty McLeod of Albuquerque; and nephew Robert Gris of PA. Hank was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell in August, 1978. He was one of the first soldiers to earn the rank of Sgt. Major in the Army, receiving that rank in 1954. His career spanned 30 years, where he served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He had also served as a recruiter and was the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the jump school at Ft. Benning, GA until his retirement in 1970. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Hank's name be made to the USO at USO World Headquarters Department, WS PO Box 96860 Washington, DC 20090-6860.
