Obituary for RAKES

James W. Rakes, 79, is celebrating his new life in the arms of Jesus. He died October 28, 2004, after a month long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marion; son, J. Tom Rakes and wife, Alice, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; daughter Janet McGovern and husband Bruce, of Hayden, Idaho; son-in-law, Allen Goodrich of Rio Rancho; brother, Ted Rakes and wife Nancy, of Tijeras; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen Goodrich; and his parents, James T. and Wilma Rakes. Jim was an Albuquerque native who served proudly in the Air Force during WWII in the European Theater. He was a long-time member of the business community, co-owning Rakes Variety store on Broadway for over 30 years and currently in partnership with his brother, Ted, in Rakes Properties. He was a charter member of the Christ Church (formerly Parkview Baptist Church), faithfully serving as church treasurer for over 30 years. Services will be held at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE at Monday, November 1, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be Sunday, October 31, 2004 from 3-5 p.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Rio Rancho Division, 2021 Girard SE, Suite 201, (505) 244-0625, or to the Hawaii Baptist Academy in Honolulu, 21 Bates St., Honolulu, HI, 96817-2404, (808) 533-7094.
