Obituary for FLORES

Mateo C. Flores, age 81, a resident of Los Lunas, NM peacefully joined Our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 19, 2004. He was a member of San Clemente Catholic Church. Mateo served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS San Francisco. He served as past commander of the VFW Post 9208 in Mountainair, NM and was a lifetime member of the VFW. His passion was horses and he belonged to the Escobosa Riding Club in Escobosa, New Mexico for over 20 years. He loved Ranching and he trained and sold many horses throughout his life. Mateo was a religious man and he truly loved the Lord and the great outdoors always brought him close to God. He considered the hills, mountains and wide-open spaces his church. He is preceded in death by his wife Carmen; daughter, Flora Antonia; his parents, Juan Jose and Augustina Flores; 2 brothers, Edward and Damacio; 2 sisters, Emma Chavez and Flora Flores; son-in-law, Daniel Melendez; and brother-in-law, Gregario Griego. He is survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Sally of Los Lunas; 9 children, Josephine Melendez, Isabel Cabrera, and Carla Flores, all of Albuquerque, Rufina and her husband, Jim King of Pittsboro, North Carolina, Fernando and his wife, Geneva of Los Lunas, Richard and his wife, Debra of Albuquerque, Antonio and his wife, Rhonda of Los Lunas, Ruby Marquez of Albuquerque, and Adela and her husband, Donald Garley of Belen; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and his 5 siblings, Dubie and her husband, Richard Baca, Carol Griego, Priscilla and Ernest Taylor, Joseph and his wife, Lucille, and Herman and his wife, Dorothy, all of Albuquerque, NM; sister-in-law, Gertrude Flores of Los Lunas; and many loving nieces and nephews. All services will be held at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas beginning with a viewing on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. with a rosary following at 6:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Rudy Marquez, Donald Garley, Richard Flores, Jr., John and Paul Flores, Tomas Pena, Martin and Sammy Flores.
