Lawrence Michael Via passed away July 15, 2004, at his home in Albuquerque, NM from complications of diabetes. Known as Michael, or Mike, he was born August 9, 1943 in Manhattan, Kansas to Clarence Wilson Via and Hazelbel Hutchins Via. Michael grew up in Santa Fe where he graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1961. He received a degree in Architecture from the University of New Mexico. He worked in several architectural firms during his college years, and then established a career with the Physical Plant Department at the University of New Mexico in the remodel section. Michael retired from the University in 1999 and spent the last years of his life traveling and finding creative ways to give new life to interesting objects he acquired at such places as the Sandia Laboratory surplus auctions. Michael is survived by his sister, Melinda Via and husband, Arturo Montoya of Thompson Falls, MT; and his nephews, CW3(P) Wade D. Boynton, wife Launa and daughters, Kyndall and Tayler of Ft. Bragg, NC and D. Jerrett Boynton of Santa Fe. His brother, David Andrew Via, was killed in a skiing accident in 1962. His father, C.W. Via, passed away in 1994 and his mother, known in later years as Haley Carmody, in 1998.
