Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday October 03, 2004

Alta Marie McKinstry Marks was born May 23, 1926 in Lincoln, Nebraska and died on Sept 28, 2004, in Albuquerque, NM after a long battle with cancer and related illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd B. Marks; her father and mother, Frank T. McKinstry and Catherine P. Berry; and her brother, Frank T. McKinstry, Jr. She was much loved by many, and her open arms outlook gave her an abundant life and made many individuals who walked through her door "adopted" family members. She will be greatly missed by many. A special thanks from the family goes out to her longtime and devoted friend, Jeannette Tuff, who took great and loving care of her until the end, and to her "adopted son" Wolf who stayed by her bedside for many days and nights. She is survived by her daughters and their families, Joleen and Roy "Rocky" Streit, and Barbara McKinstry and Van Tobin; her grandsons and their wives, Eric and Diane Streit and Sgt. Anthony "Tony" and Angie Guenther; and her great-grandsons, Sebastian Guenther and Christopher Streit. Alta will be laid to rest next to her husband in Rose Hill Cemetery, Oklahoma City. A special memorial fund -"Troop's Survival Gear"- has been established to provide needed equipment to members of her grandson's platoon serving in Iraq.
