Vela Rosella Terrell, 92, formerly of Albuquerque, NM, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004. Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, 924 Menaul Blvd NE in Albuquerque, NM with Rev. Carl Soderberg, First United Presbyterian Church pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount, Amarillo, TX. Mrs. Terrell was born August 1, 1912 in Chilton, TX to Lon & Lillion Brock Blassingame. She was the eldest of three children raised in Floydada, TX. Vela graduated from Texas Tech University where she majored in home economics. Her first teaching job was at McCoy, TX. On July 25, 1934, she married Royal P. Terrell in Floydada. His coaching career moved them to Matador, TX and later to Portales, NM where he coached at Eastern New Mexico University. Their two children were born there. In 1945 the family moved to Albuquerque. Mrs. Terrell lived there until 1999 when she moved to Claude, TX. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Woman's Club. She volunteered at the home for single moms, helping with their medical and clothing needs. She was a homemaker and business woman, managing several rental properties owned by the family. R. P. preceded her in death in 1979. Survivors include her son, Jay Terrell of Albuquerque; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Marlin Austin of Claude; six grandchildren, David Terrell and his wife, Lesa, Brian Terrell, Melanie Allen and her husband, Donny, Josie Watters and her husband, Dennis, Trisha Jackson and her husband, Ned; and Bret Austin; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite children's home.
