Lawrence "Larry" John Lucero, 72, died in Albuquerque on Saturday, September 18, 2004. Lawrence is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Irene; daughters, Debbie Rickaby and husband, Mark and Lorie Guthrie and husband, Matt; grandchildren, Amber, Jared, Sam, Brian, and Michael; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Christine Hahlbeck and husband, Leroy and Louise Sibert. Larry grew up in Las Vegas, NM and served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He then earned his Master's Degree in Secondary Education and Administration from Highlands University and UNM. He worked for Los Lunas Public Schools and APS as a Middle School Counselor until his retirement in 1994. Larry's hobbies included woodworking, construction and Hot Air Ballooning. He always used his talents to help numerous friends, neighbors and family. A special thanks to his faithful caretaker and dear friend, Josephine Sanchez, and thanks to the care given by Elizabeth Ramos, Dr. Bijan Eghtesad and Dr. Jessica Bigney and staff. Our love and thanks to his donor and family for 8 more years of life. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE on Tuesday, September 21, 2004, one hour prior to the Rosary which will be recited on Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5311 Phoenix Ave. NE. Interment will take place at 1:00 pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Rickaby, Matt Guthrie, Jared and Sam Rickaby, Brian and Michael Guthrie. Honorary Pallbearers will be Frank Bachicha, Ed Bustos, Charlie Aragon and Gilbert Lovato.
