Obituary for GALAZ

Florinda Galaz 1910-2004 Florinda Galaz, 93, a longtime resident of Los Lunas, suffered a stroke and passed away on September 10, 2004. She was born in Willard, NM on December 29, 1910. She moved to Los Lunas in 1937 with her husband, A.C. Galaz, who served as superintendent of Los Lunas Consolidated Schools for 25 years. Florinda raised seven children and was an active member of various social clubs and of the Altar Society of San Clemente Catholic Church. Her favorite hobbies were gardening and painting. She was an accomplished artist and sold many of her works. Three years ago, she moved to San Bernadino, CA to live with her daughter when her health declined. She is survived by her sister, Mary Gutierrez; her seven children, Al Galaz, Elena Kosten, Mishy Mayo, Teena Mele, Norma Byers, Richard Galaz, and John Galaz; as well as sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. It was her fondest wish to be buried in Los Lunas next to her husband, so her remains have been transported home to New Mexico for burial. A visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday September 17, 2004 at Riverside Funeral Home in Belen, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday September 18, 2004 at 12:00 Noon at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a donation be made in her name to Children International, P.O. Box 219055, Kansas City, MO 64121.
