Obituary for LOWERY

Nelson W. Lowery, 87, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on hursday, August 19, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret of lbuquerque; daughter, Peggy Rhorer and husband, Richard; son, Gary W. Lowery and wife, Sandra; four grandchildren, Roberta Jean Kees and husband, Kevin, Everett W. Lowery and wife, Lisa, Amy Shrouf and husband, Karl, and Janelle Rhorer; and eight great-grandchildren, Amanda Francis, Alicia Francis, Kit Francis III, Krysta Kees, Alexandra Lowery, Brayden Lowery, Dustin Shrouf and Nicholas Shrouf. Nelson was a longtime and dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was willing to serve in many church positions. He was a graduate of Oklahoma Panhandle State, he received his masters degree at UNM in 1958 and continued graduate work at UNM and NM Highlands. He was the high school music director for 2 years in Kansas and taught cabinet making at Albuquerque High for the next 10 years. In 1957 Nelson was appointed Director of Vocational Education for the Albuquerque Public School System. Upon his retirement, he had implemented over 140 programs in the high schools plus career awareness in the elementary and mid schools. Nelson then helped found Albuquerque T.V.I. and was the director from 1964 - 1968. He served his country in WWII in the US Army. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, 1:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, with Rev. David Okerberg officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the "Two-Som Sunday School Class."
