Serpherness Henry Wood, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, died Monday, August 16, 2004. He was born in Hillman, MN to Peter George and Bertha Elnora, both deceased. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Catherine May Wood of Albuquerque; and 4 sisters, Adetha - Mrs. Chester Setterlof of Onamia, MN, Elnora - Mrs. Vernon Jones of Onamia, MN, Ayme - Mrs. Elmer Cain of Sun City, AZ, and Alda Wood of Onamia, MN; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Dora May - Mrs. Gunnar Benson. Serpherness graduated from Onamia High School in Onamia MN, class of 1932. He then served 31 years in the U.S. Army. He received the following decorations, medals, and badges: American Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Korean Service Medal W/2 Service Stars; Army Commendation Medal W/1 Oak Leaf Cluster; national Defense Service Medal W/1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Armed Force Reserve medal - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Awards; WWII Victory Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Asiatic Pacific Campsitu Medal W/1 Battle Star; Army of Occupation Medal (Japan); 7 Overseas Bars; Meritorious Service Medal W/1 Oak Leaf Cluster; and Last overseas Tour: Greece. Prior to his military service he was Mille Lacs County Assessor, MN. He was a member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church. Services will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Friends may visit French Mortuary from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, in Onamia, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hoffmantown Baptist Church, 8888 Harper Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
