Obituary for BAREFOOT

Dr. Curtis Anthony "Tony" Barefoot, 53, a resident of Albuquerque since 1976, died Friday, July 23, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Olga T. Barefoot of Albuquerque; son, Ivan and wife, Gisela of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Isaac and Maximiliano; sister, Valarie Peterson of Orangevale, CA; nephew, Frank Peterson; niece, Veronique Peterson; aunts, Sylvia Whyte, and Mae Manning; uncle, Osbourne James; cousins, Alanna Capps, Shawn Redding, Annette Taylor, Sheila Mogliazzi, Sabrina Owens, Tselane Dean, Rashima McKelvin, and Andrew Redding; Aunt Rosa, Jennie, and Curly Lucas of Baltimore; close friend, Ramon Acosta; and numerous other family and friends. Tony was born in Baltimore, MD and graduated from Baltimore City College High School in 1968. He graduated with a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1972 from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. Tony also graduated from John Hopkins University with a Masters Degree in Computer Science. He received his PhD in Math from UNM in 1980. After receiving his PhD, he went to work for Sandia National Labs before taking a professorship at UNM. Tony then went to University of Colorado Denver and then taught at New Mexico Tech in Socorro for 18 years. Math was his first love and passion. He loved to play classical guitar. He was very kind, loving, and caring. He was a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and friends are invited to an informal remembrance of his life, Sunday, July 25, 2004, 6:00 p.m., at Ivan and Gisela's home. Please call 771-0611 for directions.
