Obituary for BARKER

Jeffrey (Jeff) Robert Barker 1972-2004. Jeff Barker, age 32, a former resident of Albuquerque, most recently living in Seattle, WA, passed away in Baring, WA, Monday, July 5, 2004, while on a base- jumping adventure. Jeff is survived by his parents, Betty and Robert Barker; his sister, Kari and her husband, Kal Wong, and their son, Ashten; his grandmother, Emma Idell Hughes, all of Dallas, TX; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins: Terry L. Hughes and son, Tyson, Doyle W. Hughes, and wife, Vicky, and their children, Cody and Eric; Johnnie and Lynne Barker and their children, Stacy and Mary Jo; Carolyn and Larry Madsen and their children, Anne, Ted, and Alan; Martin and Annette Barker and their children, Francine, Tommy John, and Madeline; and Margaret Ann Barker, from throughout the United States. Jeff's grandparents, M. Patricia and Johnnie E. Barker Sr., and W. Pete Hughes, nephew Justin Hughes, and cousin Christy Pat Barker preceded him in death. Jeff was born in Albuquerque, NM, January 27, 1972. In 1990, he graduated from Cibola High School. In 1995, he graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. Jeff's first job after college was with Boeing Aircraft in Seattle. It was then he developed a love for and a desire to live in that area. The nearby mountains provided him availability for skiing and snowboarding. Desiring to travel, he worked a short time as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines, but soon returned to his preferred Seattle area to work for Quellis Financial. Jeff had still not found his career niche in life. In 2003, he took a sabbatical and traveled throughout Europe on his own. While there, he first learned to parachute and skydive. When he returned, he settled back in Seattle, and went to work for the Pro Bowling Association. A memorial service was held Thursday evening, July 8, 2004 in Seattle, following cremation. A memorial service is also being held in Albuquerque, NM, Monday, July 12, at 11:00 a.m., at the Tabernacle of Praise, 6013 Paradise Hills Boulevard. The Pastor, Reverend Jerry Johnson will officiate. Jeff was always an adventurous sort, learning and participating in varied thrill-seeking activities. Many of us remember when as a little boy, and he rode his ATV by himself from Paradise Hills to the Rio Puerco. "He died doing what he loved to do," said Betty Betty Barker, the victim's mother, (speaking to the Seattle Times Tuesday July 6, 2004 from her home in Carrollton, Texas.) "We're devastated.
