Obituary for MCCORMICK

Helene Huff McCormick, 86, went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2004. She was born May 29, 1918 in Castell, Texas to Dr. Oscar Huff and Beulah Wilson Huff. She was a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1962 to 1986. She is preceded in death by her husband, whom she married in 1962,Wilfred McCormick; and also Ruth Huff, her sister. She is survived by her children, Swami Kripananda of South Fallsburg, New York and India; Robert McCormick of San Antonio; and a cousin, Agnes Hefner of Marble Falls, Texas. She was a writer of over 100 short stories and non-fiction articles dealing largely with the Old West. Her other interests and occupations included being a staff writer for various newspapers in Texas, as well as an appreciation for art. She exhibited paintings for galleries in Oklahoma, New York City and Texas. She obtained various degrees of higher education from schools in Texas and Colorado. At one time she held jobs as diverse as being a part-time fashion model in New York, during her college years, a high school teacher, to working for the state of Texas in the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Austin. In 1940 she took up flying and received her private pilot's license in 1941. She was an original member of the Women's Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs) in World War II.
