Obituary for COLLUCCI

Charles Collucci was born on November 3, 1920, in Newark, New Jersey. He lived in New Jersey until 1940, when he enlisted in the service. He was stationed in Panama when the war started on December 7, 1941. He was assigned to Omaha, where he inspected B17 and B24 bombers before they were shipped overseas. Later he was assigned to Kirtland Air Force Base as a B29 ground crewman. He was also stationed in Victorville, California. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1945. He had additional training and assignments until his military career finished in 1953, when he was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force. He served a short time working with the Fire Department, and then went back to work as a civilian employee at Kirtland Air force Base. As foreman of the 4929th test squadron model shop at Kirtland, he designed and constructed a device for handling radioactive materials to be used as a research tool. After his retirement, he lived in Albuquerque until his death. During the past 20 years of retirement he enjoyed good health and an active life. He traveled, and went on many ocean cruises. He enjoyed dancing, swimming, and being with friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Josie Collucci; three daughters, Cathy, Carol and her husband Elroy, and Barbara and her husband Jerry; one son, Frank and his wife Alice; three sisters, Marie, Clara, and Barbara; two brothers, Tommy and George; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Charles, Angie, Daryl, Bryan, Shane, Briana, and Cory. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited following the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 18, 2004, 9:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal PL. SE, with Fr. John Thomas Lane, SSS celebrant. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5800 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
