Obituary for HUMPHREYS

David Lee Humphreys, 63, passed away on June 9, 2004. He was born on January 8, 1941 in Washington, DC to Jesse Boone Humphreys and Virginia Isabelle (Thompson) Humphreys. He is survived by his wife, Gay Lee Humphreys of the family home; one son, Jesse Thomas Humphreys of Albuquerque and two daughters, Regina Kilton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Robin Schmahl of Lawton, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Stephanie Schmahl of Lawton, Oklahoma, and several nieces and nephews. David was employed by Sandia National Laboratories for 30 years before retiring in 1997, working in the Drafting, Metallurgy, and Field Test Departments. David was a member of the United States Navy, where he taught flight theory on Link Trainers. He was a member of the American Legion Post 13. He attended Oklahoma State University Technical Institute in Oklahoma City, and was the Student Body President, and selected "Most Outstanding Student" his senior year. David loved all sports and managed fast pitch softball and flag football teams in the Albuquerque City Leagues named the "The Sandia Sonics" in the late 1960's and 1970's. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and woodworking. He had a way of seeing the funny side of almost every situation. "I know not what the future hath, Of marvel or surprise; Assured alone that life and death, God's Mercy underlies." Before his death, David wrote his autobiography, "Life in the Slow Lane," for his children and grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 11, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel. French Mortuary 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW (505) 897-0300
