Obituary for JONES

Glyndwr Thomas Jones, age 92, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, in Breckenridge, TX. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 10 A.M. at the Evergreen East Cemetery in El Paso, TX. Burial will be under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Glyndwr Thomas Jones was born on August 11, 1911 in Blaengwynfi, South Wales, Great Britain to parents Phillip Richard Jones and Elizabeth Ann Jones. He emigrated to this country in 1929 just after the Wall Street crash. During his time here he did many things beginning as an elevator operator to the steel mills of Youngstown, Ohio. He was a representative of Commerce Clearing House, Inc. for 25 years. During World War II Glyndwr enlisted in the Army only to find out he had T.B. and spent 2 years in a Youngstown Sanatorium. Moving to Phoenix, Arizona to regain his health he fell in love with the West. In 1948 he brought 12 members of his family to El Paso to live. In 1949 he married Sibyl Rickels of Breckenridge, TX. His favorite expression was "God and Country have been good to me". He was as proud of his American Citizenship as he was his Welsh heritage. He always tried to attend the Welsh singing festivals across the country where he could "sing his heart out". Glyndwr belonged to Arizona Masonic Lodge No.2, in New Mexico, to The York Rite and Scottish Rite, and to The Royal Order of Jesters. He was Past Potentate of Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple and Past President of The Western Shrine Association. Glyndwr was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sibyl; one sister, Mary Olwen Evans; one brother, Trevor Jones; one grandson, Jay Nawrocki; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, T.J. Rickels, Elliott and Mildred Rickels, and Anna Lois Rickels Whiting. Glyndwr is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Martha and husband Donald Nawrocki of Breckenridge; his grandson, Don Nawrocki and wife Daria of Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Shrine Crippled Childrens Transportation Fund or charity of choice and may be left at Morehart Mortuary in Breckenridge.
