Obituary for NELSON

Robert S. Nelson, 83, passed away on May 21, 2004. He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Alice Nelson; and his youngest son, Karl. He was born in Minneapolis, MN on March 1, 1921; lived in Baltimore, MD in 1946; in Columbus, OH from 1946-48; and in Rapid City, SD from 1950-54. He is survived by his son, Eric Nelson; and granddaughter, Kirsten Nelson, both of Corrales, NM; a daughter, Ruth Thomas and husband, Kenton Thomas; and grandchildren, Karlee and Lindsey, all of Atlanta, GA. He was a decorated World War II Navy veteran and a World War II Pearl Harbor survivor. He moved to Albuquerque in 1954 and worked as an electrical engineer for Sandia National Laboratories for thirty years until his retirement in 1982. He was an avid golfer, a furniture maker, and a member of the Albuquerque Woodworkers Association. He was past President of his Neighborhood Association and an active member of La Mesa Presbyterian Church since 1954. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the La Mesa Presbyterian Building Fund, 7401 Copper Avenue NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the La Mesa Presbyterian Church. On Monday, June 7, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. his ashes will be buried at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM along side his wife.
