Obituary for MEYERS

Richard (Dick) Mark Meyers, 53, died June 1 at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs. He was born November 5, 1950, in Los Alamos, New Mexico, to Wilbert and Mary Hoefer Meyers. He is survived by his eldest son, Christopher Scott, and grandson, Karlan; a son and daughter-in-law, David Joseph and Nicole, and grandson, Jakob - all of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Other survivors are his parents of Albuquerque; two brothers, Dr. James Meyers of Louisville, Kentucky, and Robert Meyers of Albuquerque; three sisters, Lynn Perkins of Topeka, Kansas, Carole Steward of Los Alamos, and Janice Meyers of Colorado Springs. Dick served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Viet Nam war, being stationed in Okinawa. After his Marine Corps service he obtained a BS in Economics from the University of New Mexico and worked for the Four Corners Regional Commission in Santa Fe. After the Regional Commission was disbanded, Dick enlisted with the U.S. Air Force and obtained a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico. After graduation he was ordered to Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama, where he was responsible for significant upgrading of the electrical utility system at the base. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force with the rank of Captain in 1986. He then moved to Colorado Springs to work as a Federal employee at the Cheyenne Mountain NORAD facility, where he was a project manager for the strategic defense systems upgrade. The family will have an Open House at Dick's residence on Sunday, June 6, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm for his friends and co-workers. A memorial service and inurnment will be held Monday, June 7, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, followed by an informal gathering of remembrance at the Valle Caldera National Monument. The family requests no flowers; instead, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
