Obituary for FALARDEAU

Normand Raymond Falardeau, 80, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004. He was born in Willimansett, MA on November 18, 1923 to Wilfred Falardeau and Alboma Roy, both deceased. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Roland and Donald. His living relatives are Rev. Ernest R. Falardeau, SSS of New York City; Theresa Falardeau Rufo of Holyoke, MA; Lucille Falardeau Flynn of Springfield, MA; Adele Falardeau Roberts of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Sr. Florence Falardeau, PM of Methuen, MA; Vincent Falardeau of Holyoke, MA and Leon Falardeau of Trenton, NJ. Normand made religious profession of vows in the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament on October 5, 1947 and was ordained to the priesthood on September 29, 1952. Father Normand's academic background includes a Master's degree in Library Science from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, and a Master of Arts degree from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. He received administrative preparation at Loyola University in Chicago, IL. His early assignments as a young priest were teaching in two different high school seminaries of the Congregation where he served as a librarian, classics teacher and principal: Eymard Seminary in Hyde Park, NY from 1953-1960 and Blessed Sacrament Seminary in Waupaca, WI from 1961-1968. Father Falardeau was a dedicated teacher, a zealous priest and touched the lives of many young men preparing for the priesthood and religious life. Father Normand was elected provincial consultor of the Province of Saint Ann and served in the position from 1965-1968. He then became Provincial Superior of the Congregation's Province of Saint Ann (USA, England/Ireland, Philippines and Uganda) in 1968 and served in that position until 1978. Father Normand was assigned to the Blessed Sacrament Community at St. Charles Parish in Albuquerque in 1979 where he resided until his death. He served St. Charles Borromeo Parish as an Associate Pastor. In addition to these responsibilities Father Normand worked with the Marriage Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. In the last couple of years, Father Normand was semi-retired and continued to live in the Blessed Sacrament Community at St. Charles Parish and assist in whatever way he could. Father Normand's hobbies were many. As a serious stamp collector, he specialized in Vatican and U.S. stamps. He was also a "rock hound", spending hours polishing all sorts of rocks. He enjoyed American plays, operas and musicals. He was most interested in the cultural history of New Mexico and enjoyed touring the cultural and archaeological sites in the "Land of Enchantment." Rosary will be recited Friday, 8:00 p.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Chapel, 1818 Coal Pl. SE, with Father Ernest Falardeau reciting. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with Father Falardeau, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
