Obituary for MAESTAS

Viola T. Maestas, age 79, a resident of Santa Fe passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2004, following an illness she battled for the past six years. She was born in Santa Fe on May 11, 1925, to Eduardo and Eduivigen Tafoya. She was a 1944 graduate of Santa Fe High School. On February 9, 1952, she married Joe E. Maestas in Bernalillo. She worked as an administrative secretary for the NM Department of Labor; Director Bureau of Elections of Santa Fe County; Secretary State Education Department; and as a clerk for the U.S. Commerce Department in Washington, D.C. She was a member of the National Association of Professional Women, Club Real, Fiesta Council, and Santa Fe Women's Health Committee. Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers and sisters, Frances Clark, Rudolph, Robert, Eloy, and Edward Tafoya and Angelina Berrio. Surviving her are her husband, Joe E. Maestas; daughter, Roberta L. Espinosa of San Diego, CA; grandsons, Steve Espinosa of Phoenix, AZ and Christopher Espinosa of Portland, OR; daughter, Anita Kidwell of Santa Fe; grandson, Nathaniel Gutierrez of Santa Fe; granddaughter, Taylor Kidwell of Albuquerque; son, David Maestas and daughter-in-law, Dawn Maestas of Richland, WA; son, Joseph Maestas and granddaughter, Gabriella Maestas both of Albuquerque; son, Ted Maestas and daughter-in-law, Annette Schandel; granddaughter, Isabelle Maestas all of Denver, CO. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited Thursday, May 20, 2004, 2:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Please call for mass information. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.
