Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 16, 2004

Captain George R.Bryan,Jr. USN, 83, passed away quietly on Tuesday May 11, 2004. George was born and raised in Cleveland,Ohio. He spent the last 32 years of his life as a resident of Albuquerque. He was proceded in death by his mother and father, Hazel and George Bryan Sr., and by his brothers, Jack and Dick and his sister, Betty. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeanne Bryan; sons, Pat and Bill Bryan; daughter, Kathy Baldwin; and his grandson, Michael Baldwin. George attended Ohio University and the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD. He served his country as a naval officer for more than 30 years, seeing combat in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. More importantly, he served his fellow man everyday of his life - always giving far more than he took. There were no clouds in George's world - only silver linings. Every single person whose life was touched by George was better for that experience, from young sailors under his command to the countless charitable endeavors that he undertook to the widows at his church that he took grocery shopping. Devoted Catholic, father and husband, humanitarian, avid baseball fan, spinner of Irish jokes and stories, and purveyor of human joy, George would ask that we not grieve his passing but that we celebrate his life by helping others everyday of our own lives. Come visit George and say goodbye on Tuesday, May 18th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald and Sons Funeral Home, 3113 Carlisle NE. We will all share a favorite story about George at the funeral home and then adjourn to celebrate his life with an Irish wake at his son Pat's home, 2305 Calle De Real NW. George will be laid to rest with Military honors at the National Cemetary in Santa Fe on the following day. Services are under the direction of: Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Director's 884-1188
