Obituary for YATES

Roy A. Yates Sr., 74, passed away April 28 2004 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Silverton, Texas December 10, 1929. Roy is survived by his son, Roy Jr. and his wife, Shawnee of Milan; and his only grandson, Taylor Roy Yates; brother, S.I. Yates and wife, Dorreen of Gallup, NM; and sister- in- law, Vivian Yates of Milan. He was preceded in death by his father, Joel J. Yates; mother, Ethel Ora Yates; brother, Joel H. Yates; and sisters, Lorene Brazell, Evelyn McCoy and Verna Brazell, and Lucille Polich. A celebration of remembrance will be held at the Compassion Mortuary, 120 north 3rd street Grants, NM on Saturday, May 1, 2004 2:00 p.m. Roy was a veteran of the Korean conflict and upon his return owned and operated the San Fidel Bar in San Fidel, NM and the American Bar in Grants. Soon after he managed to build and operate successive turquoise and Native American jewelry manufacturing companies. In his last venture he built and managed one of the largest doll and Native American art manufacturing companies which is currently owned and operated by his son and daughter- in- law. I love you and will dearly miss my hero and daddy.
